Captain's 1860 Army
« on: September 09, 2011, 09:39:18 PM »
Here is my ASP Colt 1860 Army, cal. .44, built from a white kit by Yours Truly back around '85 or so. I had the barrel and receiver professionally blued. This gun has by far the slickest action of any BP gun I own (thank you very much!) and shoots quite well using 30-35 gr Pyrodex P behind either a .454 RB or hand-cast Lee 200gr conicals.

Hours of polishing the hammer/trigger assemblies with oiled 600 grit sandpaper, until it was so smooth and shiny you could see yourself to shave in it.
Factory parts are horribly rough and mis-matched. Doesn't take much to make a huge improvement.

Go for it. You'd be surprised how a little sanding with smooth up an action.
