Hi Eric N., I like using a top Lee lead melting pot. I just don't shoot that much myself.

We've carried the electric Lee melter for a while. It is great for lead in small batches, but you will probably want something a little hotter and/or bigger later on.

I have the small Lee lead pot and it works fine for casting several hundred in a batch.

For the small batches you are talking about casting, I would probably advise getting one without the bottom pour spout and getting a good ladle.

I started out with a small cast iron casting pot, maybe 4" deep and 6" in diameter, and a Lyman ladle. Being a lefty I brazed a nut on the opposite side of the ladle and screwed the handle on that side. Used any heat source, mostly a hot plate or gas camping stove. For ease of use and convenience, I now have Lee and RCBS bottom pour pots, with the Lee 20 pound pot getting the most use. The original little pot still gets used on occasion at rendezvous, over coals, to demonstrate casting ball or to supplement my supply. I know some people say that the bottom pour pots don't deliver lead fast enough for the larger balls or bullets, but I have had no trouble with casting 500+ grain bullets. Just make sure your lead and mold are both hot enough.
