Thanksgiving dinner one day late.
« on: November 27, 2015, 01:01:39 PM »
Due to work requirements.

The Strip loin roast is out of the smoker cooling before it gets reverse seared when the guests arrive. The mashed potatoes, made with cauliflower and white sweet potatoes, are in the slow cooker keeping warm. The appetizers are all made. We had a slight hitch when we realized we had no salami, etc. to go with the crackers and cheese. So we cut a bunch of the homemade bacon into squares and fried it up. Only other things is stir-fried veggies with green chili bacon pieces and cheese, and that'll get done just before serving.

Photos later.

So what did all you folks make?

What did I make?

First, I hope ya'll had a great Thnxgvng day and didn't forget to Whom we really gives thanks to.

My family and I went to share Thnxgvng day with another family.  They made the turkey, stuffing, a salad and the mash potatoes.
My lovely wife made an Apfel Strudel and Baclava while I made the cranberry sauce and a "Chicken Wings Paella", which got a thumbs up by my youngest daughter (she is a professional Chef).

Today was a hard day, as all the left overs were left at my buddy's house, and our fridge is empty.  My wife and I ended going for lunch to Boston Market and ordered Turkey!!

We did turkey (of course!) ham, sweet potato, corn casserole, stuffing, mashed potatoes, home made cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, my Famous Home Made turkey gravy, both apple and pumpkin pie plus cheesecake, green bean casserole (with French's dried onions), my wife's Famous Baked Beans with bacon, and a bunch of other stuff I can no longer remember!
Whew...I'm STILL stuffed!

Yesterday I had a left over carry-out burrito for dinner.    Today like EM's family we all got together and had a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.  I do most the heavy duty cooking at my house so most of it was my responsibility.   Everything turned out great,   all 6 grandkids were here and I now I'm sitting here in the quiet wishing they stayed longer.

We had a pretty untraditional dinner.

Strip Loin roast prepped for the smoker...

Out of the smoker and onto the grill for a reverse sear...

Off the grill and resting before carving...

Mushrooms and onions...

Sauteed Italian vegetables with green chili bacon...

Homemade chocolate-caramel cheesecake...

Traditional or not, I wouldn't turn any of that down, EM!

Electric Miner,
Wow,what a great looking dinner. That reverse searing is new to me but sounds
like a great idea. I had dinner at my daughters and besides a deep fried turkey they also
had smoked pheasant. My son and a good friend of his harvested 6 the day before,so my
son-in-law smoked them. They were just a tad dry but the taste was outstanding.
Overall a great dinner with most of the family. One grand-daughter stationed in Florida with
the Navy, will be home for Christmas. &\?

Herself and I had Thanksgiving with our daughter and son in law.  It is actually pretty nice not having to do all the prep and cooking for a change.  Dani and Mark made a traditional meal with lots of sides and a huge bird.  Lots of leftovers.  We make it a point of having Thanksgiving with them as the Christmas holiday is too short for them to do all the visiting they feel is required of them.  So we come in a month early and have the kids to ourselves.
