So I'm new, but not to the Holy Black,
from upper nor east, known as lobster land,  I shoot a springfield trapdoor,  a zouave 58, and 58 cal hawken,
back when i was 19 i had me a Walker and loved it, but had to sell it to fund some baby food, stuff-happends,, (7&
I'm about 56 now, and non of that gonna happen any more )l_
so my G?F wanted to know what i wanted for xmass and i told her to go to cabbalas and get me a black powder pistol (never thought shed do it) or a gift card,
she handed me a Pietta 1858 Remington  &\?

IM HOOKED, after 100 rounds of JOY, average of a 3 inch from at 40 yards (shaky hand) gotta practice,

So Im here Hat in hand, head humbly bowed,
asking for advice,
as
ME WANTS A COLT BAD,,,real BAD

and like a lot of folks, i can't decide on a 1st,

do i buy a 51 Navy in .36
or
do i buy the 60 Army in .44

ONE has to be first,

I do my own casting, so size doesnt matter ($!
I load with swiss and Goex, don't play with fake stuff,
Ive watched all of the duelists1954's movies,
Ive gone in and fondled each at cabbalas
but i can't decide,
and it can't be both,
i need a FIRST

seeking wisdom

Welcome Oldfart from an older one. My personal preference would be a 51 Navy, only because that's what I have and haven't thought about getting another Colt yet. Still breaking this one in. At the moment I have a 51 Navy, a 58 Remmy and .50 cal Traditions Trapper. If I want any more I'm going to have to convince Weapons Licencing that I have a genuine need for it.

Welcome from Colorado.    The '51 was the earlier of the two,   I'd start with that for no other reason.   You'll end up with both anyway.

Hi oldfart, welcome to the group!

The .36 1851 makes for a great first Colt replica. It won't be long before you have a safe full of different Colt models.

Glad to have you here.

Regards,
Richard

You finally fell for the 1851. An excellent choice, I dare say.
Now, would you consider an 1861 Navy rather than an 1860 for the next one. Same line as the Army and same size as the Navy make a beautiful gun, and not seen as often as either of the others.

Hi OF, welcome from Wisconsin! You call 56 OLD?! I can barely remember when I was that age. I think you made a good choice on a first Colt; the others will just fall into place behind it! L@J

Oldfart,  good to have you.  Save for any aromas wafting from them there southern cheeks of yourn!

Start with the Patterson ,  er,  that is,- Paterson and work your way up!  Crossing the threshold of the Walker and Dragoons,   w h e w !  What a ride!  It gets easier though.

Pretty soon you ll  be seeking therapy as a Colt Maniac.  Ok, speak for myself, I says.  Could happen , ,

Welcome! Glad you found us and found your way home (to black powder). Two guns in two weeks? I'd say you're a goner, pal! ;)
