Sharp edges with a handle.....
« on: August 20, 2013, 09:26:41 PM »
Everyone loves a blade (trust me on this one) whether it be a patch knife, pocket knife or trusty Barlow. Tell us about your favorite blade and show us the proof!

My every day carry knife is this yellow handled Case Trapper with carbon steel blades. I had one I carried for over 20 years with abalone handles but got a hole in my pocket and lost it at work >:( Anyway Case knives with abalone are exceedingly expensive these days and ones with carbon blades are kinda hard to find. I asked on one forum if anybody had one and a buddy sold me this one for 25.00. When the box came it had the Browning with it. The Browning stays in the junk drawer for cutting stuff that doesn't require a very sharp blade. The Case will shave your face.

These are my leather cutting knives,  I use at least one of them every day.  Rosewood handles with brass ferrules and brass rivets.
I keep a Buck Stockman model in my pocket for everyday cutting tasks.

I am trying to copy an old cutlery handled dagger on the cheap - got the blade from Track and the guard and the handle is a spare Sheffield plate on I aged. The guard is still too thick even though I thinned it quite a bit so I will look for some slimmer ones but overall it captures the look of an 1860's original at a price (about $35) that I won't complain if I loose it. I have two or three of these handles left may do another one sometime with a better guard.

Nice blades, all! Love the leather knives, Mike! Those look sharp enough to cut your eyeballs just by looking at them.

You could do your morning shave with any of them.  I don't have any hair left on my arms from constantly testing my knives by shaving a patch of hair everytime I strop one of them.

While I have many blades, some 1880's period correct, some big, some small, some in between..... I tend to carry my Spyderco Dragonfly everywhere I go no matter what (except though the TSA check, I've already donated enough cutlery to those guys). It holds an edge pretty well and weighs nothing. Sorry, the pic ended up being bigger than the knife is........

Dog gone it. I have so many favorites and I would love to show you but I forgot how to use Imgur to post pictures, it's been so long. I'd like to breath some life back into this thread. Knives are my passion as well.
I'll try this:

I have hundreds of knives but I guess I would have to give the edge to this one as being my very favorite. My Dad carried this knife in WWII and he gave it to me to carry on one of my tours in Vietnam with the 173 rd. Airborne Brigade. The Vietnam jungle was not kind to the leather sheath so I had to wrap it in green duct tape over there. I didn't do anything to the knife so it carries the patina created by WWII and Vietnam.

I really like that first one you posted. I could see myself carrying that one. But the knife that you and your father both carried in two wars, has to win the prize for coolest knife ever.

Thank you Dave. I am quite proud of that knife . My mother bought that for him just before he left to go off to war and she signed it on the leather handle that said, " I love you Carl". I'm glad he was able to return home with it. I had two other uncles in that war that didn't make it home. One was a tail gunner and the other one was a P-38 pilot. Both were uncles by marriage. I  follow in my other uncle's foot steps by joining the paratroopers . He was in the 82 nd. Airborne Division and made that combat jump into Normandy during the invasion.

Wow Mike, you've been busy! Those are all beautiful.

I really like that sheath with the buckstitch. That looks awesome.

Update. I recently found out the Browning in my pic is a Chinese knockoff. No wonder it wont take an edge.
