Signature Series

So what's the consensus on these as collectibles

1. Same as any other Italian revolver like Uberti
2. Premium over Italian revolvers but not like Colt 2nd generation
3. Same as Colt 2nd

I am thinking between 2 and 3 depending

I'd say 2 but have heard a lot of bad about them. Certainly nowhere near a 2nd gen.

I'm not a collector of these, so maybe I shouldn't even comment but my thought would be that bullet point 2 is the most accurate of your statements.

Just my 2 cents, but seems like the Sigs drop in value considerably after being fired or even turned and sans boxes and accessories. Since I shoot my repros and don't display them, Sigs would be wasted money and I would devalue them anyway.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I've looked hard at a bunch of Sig series Colts with purchasing in mind.   So far I haven't found one I'd pay the premium price for.  For me they are along the same lines of the Uberti and Pietta replicas,  Just more expensive.

Hi, IMO a replica BP revolver is for shooting. Even if Sam Colt signed the revolver himself, I would value the shootabilty over any cosmetic nonsense. Of course, collecting is one thing, but something only for purists, not shooters.

Why spend the money for something not original and something where there is a reluctance to shoot it?

Maybe I'm just an old ignorant BP revolver shooter where I can buy two or three shootable revolvers for a "signature" revolver.

I am obviously biased towards the 2nd Gens.  I've only owned 2 Sig Series guns. I got them in a lot with four 2nd Gens about 14 years ago.  I thought then that they were to pretty to shoot so I sold them.

I had one once before a 1862 "Trapper" with a 3.5"barrel it was really nice am looking at another one

The Trapper as far as I know was only made as a reproduction  in the signature series

I made a holster for one of those years ago.   I always liked the looks of that revolver.

1996 Colt Blackpowder advertising flier, back page says factory letters from Colt Hartford available with cost. These request did NOT go to Colt Blackpowder in Brooklyn, NY.  Relationship got cold and then they stoppped. Have proof.  Working on book and it will be in there.

That is probably when they copied the 2nd gen owners manual word for word. They even had Colt warranty information. Colt put out a disclaimer in several magazines saying they were not Colts and that Colt would not warranty them, work on them or letter them.

Colt has never had the information needed to letter a Sig Series.  All serial numbers and production data was maintained by Colt Blackpowder arms Co. Brooklyn, NY.
