Added '61 Navy
« on: March 19, 2018, 05:43:00 PM »
I picked up this clean little '61 Navy today.    Not a bargain but got it at a fair price,  I'm a sucker for the full flutes.
1978 vintage by Uberti, imported by Navy Arms.

Very nice! I have to admit, I wasn't aware of the 1861 with fluted cylinders. I'd like to have one too, but I'll bet they are scarce.
My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

I've seen them before but this is the first one I had the opportunity to purchase.   Another member here (Strawhat) has a couple of them.   I've wanted one since he posted pics of his.

It's pretty clean for 40 years old.   I'm sure it was a safe queen.   No powder residue in it but the barrel was full of lint and cobwebs.

Looks good, Mike. Great score. I would have jumped on it too.

Hi Mike, what is that mark on the frame just above the front part of the trigger guard? Did someone put in a bolt block?

Regards,
Richard

I hadn't noticed it looked like that in the photo.   It is only the Uberti logo stamp on the frame but looks weird in the pic.

Very nice, Mike! I like that streamlined barrel, and that fluted cylinder doesn't hurt either.

I thought the 1860 Army was the only Colt model to come out with the fluted cylinder.  What gives?  Is this a "fantasy gun" or was there a legitimate '61 Navy model with fluted cylinder?

That's what you get for thinkin...    there were a few original '61 Navy models with fluted cylinders.   Here's a link to one that was on auction this month.

The flutes are a little bit different on the original.
