Pair of Pietta 1860 Army Colts
« on: August 05, 2018, 08:19:17 AM »
Here's my pair of Pietta 1860 Army revolvers. Bottom one one in pic below was bought new from Dixie Gun Works in 2015. The top one was bought used off of Gunbroker. It came with the conversion cylinder, only. I bought a replacement BP cylinder for it.

Here's the 2015 Pietta Colt 1860 Army, 30grs Graf's Schuetzen FFFG black powder, Wonder Wads, .454 Hornady Ball, Remington #10 caps, 2 hands standing 21 ft - backyard range.

3F but I hear 4F might be fun...
Supposedly historic loadings used 4f.

There's currently a discussion on the use of 4F in pistols going on over at The Highroad.

Went and read the link. Great read and now more curious then ever. Looks like i need an older Lyman BP loading book and some range time. Thanks for the link

Here's a link to a reprint of the 1975 Lyman Black Powder Handbook:
https://www.cornellpubs.com/old-guns/item_desc.php?item_id=5392

I've never bought from them before but I've been meaning to get a couple of their Bannerman Catalog reprints.
https://www.cornellpubs.com/old-guns/historic-bannerman.php

I'm planning a BP order from Graf's, one of these days, and will throw in a can or 2 of 4f to see what it does. Might be kind of fun. Really need a chronograph to see if there is an increase of muzzle velocity.
