I have a couple of tubes (with snap-open tops) for my .50 cal hunting loads for the trade rifle. They came in handy once when it was raining cats and dogs, also much easier than dragging around a powder flask, balls, patches and such when you are hunting, esp. stand hunting.
But for general range use, naw. Too much monkey motion.

… an alternate to paper cartridges?:

No. I’ve tried that. Sure, they work, but no. Loading tubes, unloading tubes, packing empties is a duplication of steps, time and effort.  Just another way to carry stuff.

A ready-to-go paper cart is way mo betta for field or range.

Blackie is a good dude and a valuable resource.  I like his vids.

I stickied this as well, Dave.
A 'Must-Watch' video for anyone considering rollin' their own. And in fact, this has convinced me to try it.

I fully intend to learn this in the coming weeks. Do you reckon it matters what brand of curler papers? I see several online.
I need to watch the video again for 44 mandrel dimensions. Thanks for good information.

Sorry for the late reply Hillbilly. I've been sick as a dog.

I don't think it matters which curling papers you use. They're all about the same. For that matter, you could use cigarette rolling papers if you prefer. They're just thinner and not as sturdy as the curling paper.

I've used cheap tea bags with excellent results.

No worries Bud. We’re traveling this next few days. I’ll work on these when we get home.

Good to see you're being adventurous and experimenting a bit, AR! That's how we fine tune our favorite loads and methods of doing things...by experimenting, and not taking any one thing as "BP Gospel".

Hey ole Bud it’s good to be at a place that appreciates an experiment rather than shuns it.
Glad to be in good company.
