Val,

I saw that Django series on Amazon too. I wondered if they were worth a look. I think I'll try one tonight and see what they're all about.

I’m steering clear of that Django business.  I gave it a brief partial spin awhile back and came close to pistoling the screen just like ol Elvis did on a singing Robert Goulet.  That’s not a Western.  It’s ... it’s something else.  A leftist polemic sort of thing.

I “liked“ Fredrick Forest as Blue Duck in Lonesome Dove; one bad dude.  Remember him as Chef in Apocolypse Now?  Iconic, both times.

Anyone mention Tommy Lee Jones and Robert Duval as Texas Rangers?  They did good.

That's all I needed to hear. Thanks for the heads up, I won't waste my time.

I watched Django Unchained, it was decent entertainment but not a true western by any means.

From what I understand the "Django" series on Amazon were Italian westerns. The modern "Django" was Tarantino's "homage" (i.e. stealing) to the original where he changed a lot of the plot around. Still don't think I'll give either a watch. The original seems like a reverse Josey Wales, with the lead character being Union.

I watched a movie on Amazon last night, "The Last Outlaw" with Mickey Rourke and Dillon McDermot and a few other recognizable actors. Has anyone else seen it? It was a pretty terrible movie.

Hi, watched Open Range again yesterday. Other than the machine gun SAAs and exaggerated shotgun effects, it has one of the best gunfights of all Westerns.

Lonesome Dove is a great series. You need to watch the five movies in the series to see the whole series:

1. Dead Man's Walk
2. Comanche Moon
3. Lonesome Dove
4. Return to Lonesome Dove
5. Streets of Laredo

My upcoming viewings are:
Last of the Mohicans
Dances with Wolves

Richard
