Of course, we can't forget Jimmy Stuart (already mentioned) and Joel McCrea, but there are a lot of very good B-role actors that never quite got the credit they deserved either:*Ken Curtis*Ben Johnson*Harry Carey Jr.*Charles Bronson*Montgomery Clift*Dan DuryeaOK, help me out here, guys...
I like Cold Mountain. Watched it last night. The night before, I watched Open Range. I make it a point to over look Costner's 9 shot SSA though. Duval does a fine job portraying an individual from the later part of the 19Th Century. He did a good job in Broken Trail as well. Lonesome Dove is still my all time favorite.
Jude Law made a very convincing Reb in Cold Mountain. He had a Le Matte pick-up from the Crater, until he got shot (the first time). Later he was using a faux Griswold (.44), at least as near as I can tell.
...Regardless, I will watch any Western except for a few of the old corny ones from the 1950's and 60's...
Well, at the risk of "resurrecting" a dead thread. I thought I'd drop ky 0.02 in on my favorite Western Actors. 1) James Stewart- I don't think I've seen a Western of his I didn't like. He's just believable to me in every part he takes on. 2) John Wayne- Cause well, He's JOHN Freaking WAYNE! He IS Western America. 3) Clint Eastwood- another man who manages to embody the roles he takes on. It's as unimaginable to me to see another actor as Josey Wales as I would be to see anyone else take up Harrison Ford's part as Indiana Jones.
