London Navy
« on: May 29, 2019, 12:31:08 PM »
Well, kinda anyway. There's no London barrel address, but the BS/TG is steel now. So I'm calling it a London! I did some parts swapping with my Pietta "Adult Legos" today and came up with this. I really like the look of the Navy with the steel grip frame. Whaddaya think?

Yes, very nice.

Blued iron BS & TG were not just on London models.  The Navy bought 1851s with iron BS & TG.  They were also an option to the public, as were silver plated BS & TG.

Thanks Fellas!

And thanks for that info Fingers. Since the BS/TG on this gun are engraved, it could represent a specially ordered pistol instead of a London Model. That's pretty cool too.

The BS/TG are laser engraved Jim. I'll get a better picture so you can see.

Thanks Hewy.

To put this gun together, I started with a standard Peitta Navy, in .36 caliber. I had another Pietta Navy, that was in .44 caliber and had the laser engraving all over it. I never really cared for that gun, but it came with the blued steel backstrap and trigger guard. So I swapped that BS/TG onto one of my other pistols for a while, but really wanted the Army size grip on that one. So I put the blued parts onto the standard Navy and came up with a pseudo London Model.

Our very own Sourdough (Jim) came up with the adult Lego moniker. It really does describe these newer Piettas. The parts are totally interchangeable.

Good lookin revolver there Dave. I also really like the blued iron BS & TG.

I am with the English brothern in that I think the brass is a bit cheap lookin.

I have taken a Pietta parts revolver and tarnished the TG and BS along with the 38 cylinder that I load n shoot hollow base wadcutters in. Very fun revolver.

Yours looks like a fine revolver and I must say ... looks nothing like any 51 Pietta I have seen. Instead she now looks like a "FINE REVOLVER". Great job.

Thanks bigted! I agree 100%. I prefer the blued BS/TG on all of them. But they are hard to find and kind of expensive. I've converted several of my Navies to Army grips, because I like the way it fits my hand better. So those guns at least have a blued BS. I've though about using brass black on the trigger guards, but I'm not sure it will look good.

It looks great. I like all the trigger guards be they brass, steel or plated. My favorite is probably the silver plated squareback but they all look neat.

I will get the name of the tarnish inducer along with photo's of my setup.

Sure makes em look sharp in my opinion. AND if you later decide that you desire the bright golden brass look again, just get some tarnish remover and polish them back.

That sounds great bigted. I look forward to that. I'll definitely give it try since it's reversible.

Hi Kirk, silver plating should be easy. However, I can't think of a more problematic plating on a firearm. Silver sulfates easily. Can you think of anything used with a BP firearm that contains sulfur?

If a silver color finish is desired on a firearm, think nickel.
