I wonder...

Do any of you DIY guys do hobby sand casting?
Was wondering how difficult/easy it would be to make a mold of a brass frame and cast a bronze (or as Hawg says, "gunmetal") replacement?
Seems there could be quite a demand for such a thing.

I don't think it would be lucrative to make them to sell. After your costs for machining and polishing it would make them very expensive. It would be cool to have one tho.

Back in my hot rodding days, I used to know a couple fellas that did sand casting. They made things like aluminum rocker covers, carb intake stacks, stuff like that. I haven't talked to them in years though.

But Hawg is right, the actual sand casting isn't that hard. It's all the work after casting that is costly and labor intensive.

If someone could make exact same original size and shape Colt gripframes that could be fit onto a Uberti or Pietta I think that would be really cool.

That would be cool. They would have to be different dimensions from originals where they attach to the frame because Uberti's are a tad larger and Pietta's are even larger but they would be closer than what's available now, especially from Pietta.
