Defarbed Walker - Cylinder in thge White like Originals

This is one of my Walkers. It is a Uberti that has been defarbed and the bluing removed from the cylinder.

My guess is, most people buying a Walker replica, don't know much about the history of the original. They just know it's a big Ol' honkin Colt and it's cool. They would probably not understand why the rest of the gun is finished, and the cylinder isn't.

You make a good Point. I guess many buyers really know very little about these guns or Pietta would not sell so many fantasy guns.

Why were Original did not blue cylinders ?

Hi Hewy, the first Walker cylinders were wrought iron where any bluing would cause heat treating not desired, the metal grain size would increase softening the metal. Early bluing was charcoal bluing, a very hot bluing. There were enough examples of original Walker cylinders blowing up. Bluing would aggravate that problem.

White vinegar works well...just watch it carefully and pull it/rinse as soon as the bluing is gone.

Right on Capt! That is exactly what I did. I soaked it about 15 minutes and wiped the blue away. Dried and then oiled it

Hi tijack, I nickel plated one of my Walker cylinders to have the original look, but having some resistance to rusting.

Looks very good. I really do not need to worry about rust much. Where I live is high desert and low humidity.

Looks good tljack but are you sure it's a Uberti? I could be wrong but to me it looks like a later Armi San Marco.

Absolutely. the only mark that was not removed was the Uberti emblem of the muzzle of the barrel.
