i am waiting to talk to kirst on monday about the minor binding issue between the cylinder and the ring. i know I can fix it, but dont wanna void nuthin..

 i been toying with the idea of sanding all the old fake case hardening off the entire gun and just leaving it that way for a while, i kinda like the look. balistol will keep it looking good till I decide... here are a lot of dings and dents on the entire gun that I could do sense I have gone this far... its like opening a can of worms.. once you start, where do you stop????  (l"

Hi AG, if it has lots of dents and dings, it may be a good candidate for a defarbed antique finish (vinegar, mustard, etc.).

ok, well... here it is... about as done as its gunna get this summer...  new spring kit, in the white, rotating like i stole it... i like it...





still havent shot any 45lc outta it.. just to dang busy with all the other stuff going on.. as it was been using my "day of rest" days to finish it up to this point... having a good time learning to twirl it... lol

i know.. not period correct... not what I was going for... just looking for another carry gun... but I think it turned out well...

AG,

I am glad you went that route with the .45 conversion rather than ruining the GU with a .38 conversion cylinder. That is a nice looking carry gun! You did a very nice job on it in a very short length of time.

To us old replica fanciers, that GU is now in good hands, thanks to you! Kudos!

yea... i hate making mods on anything historic.. i prolly could have just restored the entire gun back to original, but I might have mistakenly done sumthin I shouldnt have... and I am obviously not a collector or even interested in staying period correct, and approach things from functional aspect. so I was NOT the guy for the job... and dave is thrilled.. restoring rusty old junky misused ill taken care of non functional guns back to function is more my style...  Anything that requires JB Weld and ducktape is right up my alley.

Hi AG, that conversion came out very nice. Did you have any difficulty getting the headspace right? I had a lot of trouble with the cylinder ring catching on a cartridge rim where I had to leave a greater headspace than desired.

You may want to add a taller front sight

no trouble with headspace on mine Richard.. but I hink you are gunna be correct about that front sight.. it was right on the edge of being too short when it was a BP gun, so I will have to figure out how to do that one next. replacing the blade... anybody got a video on how its done??  i am a visual learner.. trying to explain it via written instructions is like talking to a rock with me... lol

I had been doing something like the reference, but was having issues of having the taller front sight fall off after a lot of shooting. Since that issue, I have replaced most of my 1860 front sights with dovetail taller sights that lets me also adjust windage:
