Cimarron 1878 Colt Coach Gun
« on: May 08, 2019, 11:23:20 AM »
In another thread, I teased the Capt. with a little picture of this gun. He requested it get it's own thread, so here it is.

This is the gun that I will be using in CAS. It is a Cimarron 78' Colt clone. Obviously it's a rabbit eared gun, which is my favorite type of shotgun. Just like my pistols and rifles, I like the classics.

Purdy ain't it?

It's been slicked up for competition by having a few things done to it. The springs have been lightened up a bit, so I can cock both hammers one handed with ease. And speaking of the hammers, they've been "dehorned" so they don't fillet my hand upon cocking. The chambers have been highly polished so the empties fly right out, and the chamber mouths have been chamfered so the shells are easy to drop in, even if you don't hit em' dead center.

It's a nice little scattergun built by TTN and imported by Cimarron. It should serve me well with the steady diet of BP loads I have planned for it.

In case anyone is interested, here it is nestled in among my other cowboy shootin gear.

Hope you enjoy, thanks for looking!

Thanks Capt. I thought you might like it!

The holster rig is made by a company in Nevada, Western Star Leather. The Maker's Mark says "J. Costanza". So maybe he's the owner or the craftsman that made it. it is a beautiful rig for sure.

I really didn't choose it though. It came with the two 72' Open Tops I bought. That gentleman had the rig made specially for them. I'm just lucky it fits my..uhm........rotund body.

As soon as I get caught up from all the gun and reloading supply purchases I've made, I'm going to have Mike make me a rig. You can't have too much leather!

If you go looking for one of these shotguns, they're out there. Might be a little hard to find, due to their popularity with the CAS guys. Unfortunately their popularity also drives the price up a bit. I'm ashamed to tell you what I paid for mine.

I swear, dawg.  Those are an eye-full.  You be serious stylin, now.   Well done on that new gauge … and everything.  When is your next CAS shoot?  Will it be nearby your Lake area?

Thanks G Dog!

There's a match this Saturday. Don't know if I'll make it or not. I've actually yet to shoot my first official match. Just been doing a lot of practicing and acquiring all the necessary equipment. The last bits have finally fallen into place now.

John Costanza is the owner of Western Star Leather,  He doesn't make the products but makes the samples/prototypes for each of their rigs.   They make very good stuff.

Thanks Mike for letting us know about Western Star.

I made the knife sheath shown in the picture. Obviously the color doesn't match. But I needed a sheath to go on the rig, so I made it myself. It's not bad and it's even lined. I was kinda proud of myself. LOL!

One day soon, I'll be conferring with you about a rig. As soon as I get caught up after all the spending I've done this last month.

Thanks Dave!

Not required so much, but it's an option. There's a list of accoutrements that you have to choose 5 from. A pocket watch is on the list. Also. sleeve garters, chaps, spurs, roping cuffs, gloves, suspenders, a knife, and a few other things.
