That is cool as hell and never seen anything like that on a BP cartridge revolver before.

It may or may not be cool, but is it useful?

On the side of the grip frame in tiny letters it says 38 cal. The on the underside of the barrel, near the forward end of the ejector rod housing it says 38 COLT & S&W SPEC. Date code is CN.

Hi Electric, that suggests that the cylinder isn't long enough to accept a full length 38 Special cartridge, 1.55". The 38 Colt is probably the 38 Colt (Short). My conversion cylinders used with the 1851 are spec for 38 Colt & 38 Special. However, only the 38 Colt (short) heeled bullet and HBWC 38 Special will fit. You also need to check if your revolver bore is 0.375" or 0.357". If the bore isn't 0.357" you will need to load either 38 Colt (Short) heeled bullets, or 38 Special brass with hollow based wad cutter bullets.

Let us know what the bore size is.

Regards,
Richard

What do you think, Miner?  Are you going to keep it for awhile?  If you go to sell it I'll bet you'll make a buck or two.

Hello Electric Miner,

Nice find, I'm sure you will have fun with that one.
I would imagine it's a .357 bore, so either 38 Special,
38 Long Colt, or 38 Short Colt with .357 dia. bullets.

Hello Richard,

This is not a Conversion, rather an 1871 Open Top Uberti.
I'm sure the chambers meets the SAAMI specs.
