Hi All
I replaced the front sight on my "Ole Silver" 1860 Army with a taller one that I made.
As you probably know the front sights on these repros leave a little bit to be desired. I made the new one quite tall (about .430) as compared to the original. I think these revolvers were supposed to be for shooting at 75- 100 yrds back in the day, thats why the sights are so low when new.
I made it from some 1/8th in (.125) flat brass stock I had. I had to file it down to .118 in to get a press fit in the
BBL. After I formed the new one, and filed it to .118 in, I cleaned the slot real well, and put in some paste soldering flux. Then I flattened a piece of silver solder, put it in the slot, and tapped the sight in its new home. I then heated the knew sight till a little speck of solder came out of the slot. I know its high, but it will get filed down when sighted in.
Heres some pics. Original sight is on top of new one in pics.
