Yep, I don't even know what half the stuff under the hood does on our newer cars. You can't even get under them to change the oil!

I had a 24 valve double overhead cam V-6 in a Ford. You had to take half the intake off to replace the rear plugs but then I had a 76 Pontiac where you had to remove the right front tire to replace the plugs on that side so the bs started way back then.

Yeah, it started way back. I had a buddy who bought a new Chevy muscle car (60s?...don't remember the model) and to remove the oil filter you had to unbolt the engine mounts and jack up the engine!

The best car I ever had was a 4 cyl Ford Taurus Estate, I could fix everything myself. If you needed to do something on the engine, you could step in and sit beside it when tinkering.
My old friend since way back, has stuck to the older cars and now have 3 Volvo Estates, and there's always one that is running. You can always tell when there's an old Volvo around, just follow the smell of half burned gas and oil.
