Oh, and 5-6 years ago a friend in northern Wisconsin sent me 3 quarts of rendered bear fat! Not on my list of approved dietary items though. I have heard it is great for cooking and baking.

Absolutely! That is what I am primarily using it for. Patch lube, lock lube, and mixed with beeswax for bullet lube.

Yeah, I forgot the waterproofing part. Oh, and one other thing, the birds LOVE the bear fat as is for winter nourishment in suet feeders.
