First pistol I probably ever saw with my eyes was an original .38-40 SAA with 7 1/2" barrel. When I was probably 3 years old. Dad would carry it when feeding the cows, because of the panthers.

Many a deer and men for that matter, have fallen to the 44-40. My Winchester 66 is in 44-40. It has plenty of power and is a hoot to shoot.
Dave, I know you've probably posted a pic before but would you mind posting some of your 66 Winchester? I would love to see it. When and if you have time. Thanks. Tim

A cousin of mine has an original Colt Lightning Rifle in 38-40. I've shot it. It's an impressive caliber. It's accurate with plenty of power. It would be a good caliber in a pistol.

Certainly Sir. I'll dig it out and get a few pics. I'll post it elsewhere so as not to hijack this thread.

Let's move the discussion of the '66 to whatever thread Dave starts so as not to hijack the OP's thread.

Well kitchen and dining room revamp took my hideout dollars so guess my Colt SAA 38-40 gonna still be a back burner thing. Unless that is unless I find somebody to trade with )l_
