Pietta G&G

I got this gun in 2016, sold as used. I see no evidence of that as it looks great.

I may have to switch to my other camera, this one doesn't seem to focus well. Or...maybe it is operator error?!

Good looking piece Em. I love the half round barrel on the G&G.

Your close-up pics ar the only blurry ones. Maybe the camera has a macro setting?

That is very interesting to me. I have tried to document the various gripframes that Pietta used on various 1851 Navy "type" revolvers from 1990 (or before) and this one from 2001 looks different. I would appreciate it very much if you could post a photo of the bottom of the backstrap so I can do a comparison. This is what I have found so far (I can elaborate later):

My Pietta G&G date code CP/2016:

As an aside, I would like to invite you, if not already a member, to post this thread here under the G&G child board:

https://blackpowdersmoke.com/revolvers/index.php

A few of us are trying to revive this good forum by having folks post threads about replica BP revolvers like you have with any photos, markings, date codes, et al. We need contributors to keep this alive.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Jim

I  joined that forum about 3 years ago as it was a slow go then. I posted a few threads and when there was no response, I just kinda gave up. There are several pictures I can (and will)  post if you think it will help. I just keep seeing the same familiar names though.

Don't give up on that forum. Yeah, it has been slow in the past few years but I would like to see you and many others there.

Do you have any ideas as to increase interest? We would be open to any suggestions.

I have recently been made a mod and my job is to recruit as many new members as I can. We are open to any suggestions as to how folks want it to look. It has been around since prior to 2014 and was created for Dr. Jim L. Davis who was the creator of the RPRCA site (Replica Percussion Revolver Collector Association). He passed last September and we are just trying to carry on in his vein.

If no one seems interested, it will go the way of the dodo, and I think there is a place for this board. There are a bunch of posts here that don't appear on other forums.

Any help would be appreciated!

Regards,

Jim

I have a Griswold too and I’m glad I do.  Got it from EMF in 2017.  It’s the only brass frame I own.  I keep the load at 15 grains but I use Triple 7 which according to the 15% rule is the supposed equivalent of 17.2 grains of black.  That’s enough to make a good shot and puts a .380 through a couple of 1” pine boards.

The photos are from when I first got it and had only had it out a couple of times..  Little by little the brass is darkening up.  Patina looks good on brass. I dislike bright shiny guns..

The bottom of the grip frame on mine is like the single larger notched one you have. I do have a macro setting, but it is not self-focusing and I have trouble seeing the photo in the small screen.

Thank you Sir! It is a bit blurry but I will sharpen it up. At first glance it looks like the "Small Tail" gripframe from the 90's, and that is curious to me because Pietta went to CNC machining ~2000. Maybe they used parts/gripframes they had in parts inventory just to get them out the door. If that is the case, your revolver might be a "transitional" gun. It happened with the Colt 1848/1849 Pocket Revolver concerning trigger guards/frames/barrels in that era.
