Have you tried the gun auction sites?
Like I said, I've been burned a few too many times to plunk that much money down sight unseen. For something more like $25 to $50, yes I'll go the auction route, but when we're talking $150 or $175, I just can't seem to trust someone unknown. Now if it were someone I know, like someone on here, now that's a different story, if you get my drift. Thanks for the suggestion, though.
I have purchased a number of guns off the auction sites at very good prices. Yeah, I've been burned a few times, but I usually end up with a nice piece when finished. You have to go at it as if you are buying a project gun, 'cuz you
are. Some of my projects required little, others a great deal. But it's a lot of fun working them and you a) learn a lot, and b) end up with a boatload of guns in a very short time. Secret is to never pay what you would for a new Cabela's gun. Figure no more than, say, $150 for a brasser and $200 for a steelie, and in many cases, you will come in lower. Quite a bit lower. If they overshoot your budget, you walk. On the other hand, I've heard of a few folks very disenchanted with a new gun that didn't meet their expectations; of course you can always exchange it, but that's a hassle too. Buying a project, you go into it knowing it's gonna need work and the end result is usually worth the effort.
And yes,I get your drift.....
I guess I should add one more here. Since my last one here, my fantastic wifey has allowed me to order my Christmas present. An 1860 Colts Army revolver. Brandy New, even, from Cabela's. Wonders will never cease. Just a few days ago she informed me that no new guns would be purchased, period! Maybe she just didn't want me jumpin' the gun, as it were. Anyway, it should be here by the 23rd. Wonderful Christmas this year.
On the other hand, if you are gettin' a new
pistola from the wife, I suggest you run with it and return the favor by buying her something REALLY special in return!
