My new Colt (ASM) Walker...
« on: July 28, 2020, 04:02:31 PM »
Hi all,

Someone suggested I should post here to see what the experts have to say about this Colt (ASM) Walker I bought today here in France off Naturabuy...

I only have the pictures from the advert to go on - but this IS one of those ''Colt marked'' ASM Walkers that I have heard about and tried to research - but found very little information about online...

The seller has said from the 70s but the pictures don't show any of the Italian markings for proofing or year - I will check the gun out fully when in hand but I thought I would post the pictures I have now just to see what everyone thinks...

Thanks in advance,

John.

I think it's worthless junk. But I'll take it off your hands, Johnno. Save you trip to the scrap yard. _*&

Actually, I would hold tight to that one as I said over on Remmy. Those "lawsuit" guns are going to be collectible in their own right.

I love it,

I think I will have to call this my ASM ''lawsuit gun'' :)

I have a feeling this will become an even more collectible piece in the future Captainkirk...

John :)

It looks like you have a keeper.  The Walkers are a lot of fun !  They do have an appetite for powder...  8)

Thanks DoubleDeuce1 :)

As promised - here are the pics of markings with the gun in hand today (came in today's post)...

Its not as old as I thought - ''AI'' makes it 1982 - its definitely got the colt markings on the cylinder and the barrel - and also some idiot has decided to clean a few spots with too rough sand paper (which doesn't help) lol...

When mannually indexing you don't get the click - but when you cycle the weapon the lockup and action seems excellent otherwise...

Hoping these pictures will shed some light - see what you think guys ?

So far I'm thinking it is Captainkirk,

But I did pay a wee bit much for it maybe lol

The only OTHER problem - I'd say the spring from the hand/pawl is broken...

I know I have a spare hand/spring attached for a Remington 1858 - I'm guessing the hand won't be correct but maybe the spring will be ?

I've only handled two ASM Walkers so far - but from what I can tell so far EARLIER seems to be better quality - I feel the quality of my 1972 ASM seems to be a lot better than this 1982 ASM - its still a good quality gun in its own right but the one from the 70s has the edge on it I think...

Of course the 1982 has the ''naughty'' Colt markings which I think definitely makes it collectible :)

But - next step - need to strip her down tonight and see what I can do about that broken/lost spring for the hand...

Try the "bobby pin fix"...remove the broken hand spring and fabricate a replacement from a piece of a bobby pin. I've got several thousand cycles on one of my repair jobs. The spring is not available as a part, ASM parts are pretty 'unobtainium', and if you did manage to find a replacement hand it would have to be hand-fitted and timed to your ASM. I did a write-up on this somewhere a long time ago but can't find it now. If you have any questions I can walk you through it.

Edit: Type the words bobby pin in the search box over on the 1858 Remington forum. My post and a bunch more are over there detailing the bobby pin fix.

Looks like a winner Johnno! Very nice shape.

Capt is right, the bobby pin fix works great. I did it on my 72 vintage ASM Dragoon.
