No, I've not loaded any BP rounds...yet. All the bullets I bought were lubed for smokeless, and I've only put 10 rounds through the poor thing, thanks to CV-19 restrictions.

Black powder is the only propellent that should be used in a 44-40. Just sayin. L@J

You know, that I know, that BP is the only propellant that should be used. I'll get there...in the mean time, it takes me 5 minutes to clean my '66. Just sayin'... L@J

Why would I do that? I've disassembled it twice. Both times there was nothing in the action at all. The 44-40 bottleneck case obturates very well, and keeps fouling out of the action. No need to take the whole gun apart. I clean the barrel and the elevator area and I'm done.

I disassembled my 44-40 92 once. There was nothing in there. Keep an empty cartridge in the chamber when you clean it and you wont get anything in the action.
