New Fella from Florida

Hello all. Greetings from the west coast of Florida. After many decades of inactivity from the shooting sports, I developed a keen interest in black powder cap and ball fueled by my interest in the Civil War. Now that I’m retired, I have more time to stay busy on my varied interests and watching television isn’t on the list. Ha. My first purchase is a modern Colt 1851 Navy, US Grant Commemorative that won’t stay in the case. I intend to shoot it.  “Check is in the mail” and will post pics after receipt. I figure the calibre and the model is a great start.  Looking forward to being here and learning. Thank you to Global Moderator sourdough for the lead on this forum and invite!

Hi there, I'm glad you took up Sourdough Jim's invitation! Looking forward to seeing/hearing more from you. As an aside....when I was a kid there was a western movie titled "Whispering Smith", still remember the title, not a whole lot of the movie.

Welcome aboard! While you are waiting for that gun to arrive, feel free to peruse the board and start asking questions. You probably already have some; don't be shy about asking them! One thing about our members here is they are all passionate about black powder cap & ball revolvers and especially the Colt-flavored ones. I'm not even gonna approach the subject of long guns now...let's just say we have some fanatics here (not namin' names... ) who are just as passionate! One thing you WON'T find here are the arrogant attitude kids and self-appointed gurus that haunt some of the other places. So, kick off your shoes, pull up a log to the fire and join in!

Captain Kirk runs the show, but he and Shotgun Dave are the most laid back administrators/ moderators I have ever encountered. From our previous encounters on other forums I know you are a noob. We were all noobs once. Do not hesitate to ask a question or state your point of view. The folks here are very well versed about Colt replica revolvers, loads, repairs, modifications. You will do well here with any inquiries.

Thanks for the welcome! Funny, I remember hunting and dreaming of traplines 50 years ago. Who would’ve
thunk I’d be looking forward today to my first cap and ball? Nothing like retirement to bring out the kid. I have questions, indeed.  And received my Sam Fadala “Black Powder Handgun” book today and dove right in. Thanks!

I’m in St. Petersburg. If you lived in Lakeland, you know it’s a short drive from I-4; a very uncivilized road! Mmm, it’s actually Florida drivers.
