Sunset Riders
« on: July 23, 2020, 07:36:56 AM »
It's been a year since DD4lifeusmc (Steve), rode off into that final sunset. He will be sorely missed. I didn't learn about his passing until September, whereon Len and I hatched a plan to honor his memory by 'snapping a cap' and drinking a toast to his memory, which we carried out last September 21st. We were discussing a redux this year, when I started thinking, hey...most of us are riding the fence north of 50...it would be nice to have a forum dedicated to the memory of those forum members who have gone on ahead, not just Steve. And as Len mentioned, we may not even know who has left the building in some cases.
So, here's the plan. We will have a list right here in this forum of Sunset Riders, and on the 21st of September each year, (preferably between 10:00 pm and midnight in your time zone) anyone who wishes may fire off a round, snap a cap, or if location is compromised by ordinances, laws, HOA or apartment complex issues, pop off a kiddie cap gun...and raise a toast of your favorite beverage in honor and memory of them. This will be a synchronized effort with all 3 blackpowdersmoke forums (1858 Remington, Colt Country, Collector's Forum). Naturally, pictures and videos will be most welcome.

From last year's toast to DD4...

Weapon of Choice (Steve was a big Remmy fan)

Capped and ready to go

A shot of Jameson's and a snapped cap...ride on, Steve...ride on.

And yesterday Chuck Yeager took off for his last mission, at the age of 97. I like his winged words from the WWII over Germany: "First time I saw a jet fighter, I shot it down". Says it all?
