Here is an M. Carlton pistol. The hammer slides forward to hit the nipple and the mainspring is the trigger guard.

Now that's an interesting piece. So the hammer slides forward to strike the cap? It's an early form of striker fired pistol.

I should have included a picture of the barrel; maybe I will soon. It has an extension on the back that slides through a square hole in the trigger assembly. Put trigger assembly in the pistol, slide the barrel through that hole and pin it in place.
