P53 Enfield....
« on: October 19, 2020, 11:24:40 AM »
...or what's left of it. I got this from an elderly friend many years ago.
There is a story that goes with it, but I won't go into that now.

Now I do have one of those. The lock is dated 1861. I also have an original bayonet. Top is original, bottom is repro.

Holy moly! Either a tank ran that poor thing over, or someone used it as a crow-bar.

I don't know the story behind that one but I've seen a lot of battlefield relics and the things artillery fire did to stuff was amazing. I saw a Springfield bayonet once that was perfectly rolled up from tip to socket.

This had been a nice musket! The friend I got it from was moving and had this standing up in an open trailer back in the 20s. Trailer had a tire blow out and rolled over  (jh I think I have some of the rest of the stock splinters too.

That barrel was quite advanced at the time, permitting the soldier to stand sheltered behind a tree while firing.
