guns that had a red stock were called CHIEFS SPECIAL'S and BLUE PAINTED STOCKS WERE FOR SUB CHIEF'S. back in the days of trading them with the INDIANS, a sign of status!!

As far as I know, the better Trade Guns were English, made by Wilson, Barnett, etc. The French guns were fusils, for some reason the Indians preferred the guns with the serpent side plate and Sitting Fox.

even the INDIANS poo-pooed the ENGLISH WHATLEY guns, as inferior pieces. they rely liked the TULLE GUNS.

it looks as it might be a CURLY & ERMA GUSTOMSKY, 12 bore trade gun? just a guess as I also have the same one as you posted.
