Gas seal
« on: January 11, 2021, 11:21:40 AM »
I was talking to my buddy this morning and, as usual, the topic swung around to gun stuff. I asked him about the gas seal he had made years ago for the Sile Sharps paper cutter he got from me. He said it was just a 10 gauge plastic wad! He cut off everything from the top, leaving just the bottom of the wad and drilled a hole through the center. If you do this, you might have to thin the wad a bit depending on how thick it is. Using this (he said) you can shoot all day without fouling out. Quick, easy, and cheap!

I wonder how long it would last.

I'm not sure, but it seems it lasted quite a while. And replacements are cheap!

I don't understand the function. Where does the modified wad go?

My Pedersoli Paper Cutter has the Charlie Hahn modification to the chamber. It works perfectly. Very little to no gas leak.

I think it works the same way altho I'm not sure how it would stay in place.

That's what I was thinking too Hawg. Wouldn't it go out the barrel when the rifle is fired?

No, it would go behind the breech plate.
