Soy Wax
« on: January 24, 2021, 08:12:10 PM »
Has anyone used soy wax to coat their felt wads? I saw a utube video where he soaked his wads in nothing but soy wax. Most of the time it is a combination of beeswax and tallow, or some slight variation. Any ideas or thoughts?

I've used pure olive oil before. Never heard of soy wax.

I've never heard of soy wax either. Gonna have to investigate a little.

I've heard of it but don't know anything about it. Olive oil works.

Soy wax and soy wax candles are common here, lots of soy bean growers. I have never heard of it being used for soaking the felt wads in though. Maybe buy a soy wax candle, melt it down and try it. I don't know how well it would mix with other ingredients to thin it; maybe olive oil would work. Did the guy in the YouTube video give any observations about using it?

Hopefully the link to YouTube will work. He didn’t mix it with anything.

Gotta love Blackie. He's pretty knowledgeable about BP.

I agree, I always enjoy Blackie and his topics. However, he never does verify that he is using a soy wax candle, as those ingredients are not listed. I would guess that it is soy wax, or a soy wax product since petroleum products are not listed either.

If the candle container doesn't state soy wax anywhere, I would be skeptical. Every soy wax candle I have seen says so quite plainly on the label. If you have a Hobby Lobby in your area, they carry a 2 pound package of plain soy wax chips for $10.00. Other places carry candles, but most are scented and cost around $12.00, for a lot less wax. Personally, I have enough tallow and beeswax for a few lifetimes worth of lube

I bought some soy wax at a local craft store. $10 a pound for flakes. Next time out shooting I will try using a flake as a wax pill. I have read interesting reviews about using wax pills made of bees wax and lard.
