Mini Work-Mate vise
« on: February 26, 2021, 12:23:50 PM »
When I saw Mike116's little Work-Mate vise I had to have one too. I found one on eBay for not too much and bought it. When it came, I was wondering about condition....

The box is pretty shop-worn but the vise looks like new!

Looks nicer than mine Emery.  Did it come with the bench dogs and metal jaws?

Nice score Em.

The one thing that kept me from jumping on the couple I found was, the plastic jaws. How do they look now that you have it in person?

Mike, yes and yes, dogs and metal with soft face inserts. The dogs are still in the plastic bag. Dave, the dogs are plastic, but the wooden jaws open up to 5". I don't foresee any problems. The dogs on the full size Work-Mate are plastic too, and I have made some wooden ones to add to versatility.

So the jaws are wood then? That makes a difference. Now I'll have to get one for sure.

There is no wood on these at all.  Plastic and metal.   The metal jaws are removable so you can use the plastic jaws for a no-scratch vise.  I find it handy to leave the metal jaws off.   I can clamp a gun in the jaws without worrying about scratching it.

Mike, you're right! I just took a close look at the jaws; they look like wood at first glance, but on closer inspection I can see they are indeed plastic.

They are easy to make and you can configure them to fit a specific need.
