Before I sent it off I'd at least take off the trigger guard. A broken trigger spring would be readily apparent. A cap fragment should also be visible. If a hand spring is broken point the barrel straight up and cock it. Most times if it's a hand spring it will function correctly in this position.

I broke a hand spring on a Remington (x2).  After the break it only worked pointing down - gravity assist.
