Clearly two Navies are not enough...
« on: June 12, 2021, 01:34:32 PM »
Have a pair of Piettas.. and I'd like to get another ... I really like the open top... suggestions on what to look for ? Perhaps a Uberti or a signature gun ? Maybe even a "project " gun of some sort

Not adverse to looking at other than Navy....

Any thoughts appreciated

You can never have too many Suntiger!

Maybe an Uberti so you can compare them against your Piettas? A Signature Series gun will be pretty pricey, and they have their own problems and spotty quality from what I understand.

How about an Army model to go along with the Navy pair? Try something different.

Doc may be on to something. Still a Navy but in a different configuration.

Might be a dumb question , but does a Uberti use a .375 ball ?

I've been using .376 but I would think .375 would be fine.

I understand that .375 balls are a bit loose in the chamber of an Uberti. I've read that .380 is recommended for use in them. But Pietta works perfectly with the .375 balls.

Both of my Uberti's work perfectly with the .376 and do cut a lead ring from the ball.

Take a look at an Uberti 1861 Navy.

I would stay away from the signature models. If you don't mind spending the money a 2nd gen would be a good one to have. An 1860 army would be good as well as a 61 navy.

Thanks for the help! My only hesitation on Uberti had been that arbor issue.. still puzzled why a  manufacturer wouldn't address a known longstanding issue.. but I understand otherwise fit and finish is good... may well go that route... there's no rush ....

I've got a pair of Uberti 1861 Navies that shot POA out f the box. Haven't done anything to them other than springs and Slixshot nipples. A short arbor has not been an issue. I've used them n SASS competition for years.
