Sharps Paper Cutter

Mike has just posted a new video about his new Pedersoli Sharps 1859 rifle. If you're like me, and love the Sharps Paper Cutter, you'll like this one.

I wonder if he had RWS caps if he might have had better luck in igniting the cartridges. I didn't even know Schuetzen made caps; but then it has been a few years since I bought any caps.

Seems to be a common issue with that kind of ignition channels. Same with the Smiths. You have to have a thoroughly clean channel. No oil, no grease in it, just clean exposed steel . And I agree, four winged RWS caps would do the job.

All I used with mine was RWS. Some four wing and some no wing. They both ignited Swiss powder instantaneously. Pyrodex was slow about igniting. I liked the rifle but hated rolling cartridges for it.

I was thinking the same thing fellas. Mike even mentioned that the Shuetzen caps were less energetic than the CCI caps. That's pretty bad. Like Em said, I didn't even know Shuetzen made caps.

I just ordered 1000 RWS caps from Graf's the other day. That way I don't have to use the terrible CCI ones I have.

The RWS 4 wing caps worked perfectly with my Sharps Infantry rifle.   I don't recall ever having ignition problems with paper cartridges or loose charges.    CCI Reenactor caps worked about 1 out of 6 or 7 times.

That's been my experience too Mike.

Great video, Dave! Have you experienced any of the paper cutter woes Mike did in this one?

No, not really. Mine has the Charlie Hahn modification on the chamber. So I don't get the gas escaping like most do. I haven't ever heard of the guy Mike used to modify his, and I didn't like that he loses the ability to cut the cartridge open when the action closes.

The only real problem with mine has been spotty ignition. And that's the fault of the caps I was using, not the gun's fault.
