Hey guys,

I have this project derringer that I've disassembled and cleaned. You can see how corroded it was from the pics. Now I'm trying to reassemble it. I had to order a trigger spring for it, but I'm not sure how to install it? The trigger doesn't seem to want to come forward enough to install the spring. The trigger appears to only be able to be installed one way. What am I doing wrong here? Anyone assemble one of these that can give me some guidance? Part number 13 in the schematic below.

I'm not sure how to install the trigger spring given how much I'd have to compress it to get it between the trigger and housing. Also, I noticed the hammer will not stay cocked to the rear and the trigger doesn't seem to engage the sear to release it. I have not installed the grip, so I don't know if that will make a difference?

Thanks!

I built one of those from a kit many years ago, but don't remember much about the process. From reading the instructions, it seems you insert the spring into the trigger guard and press the trigger guard in place. Was the trigger spring in the gun when you got it, or was it missing? My only suggestion would be to make sure the blind hole is clear so the trigger spring is inserted fully. I don't think the grip has anything to do with the operation of the action. Just my 2 cents worth.

Thanks. Spring was missing when I got it.

would love to see this one finished...

Yes sir! Gonna leave this one with some patina for now. Also have a pepperbox that's in good shape and an unfinished cutlass derringer still in the plastic wrapping. Also, a small swivel barrel single shot that I'm looking for a schematic on. It has no markings and It came in a bag of parts. And an unfinished Griswold and Gunnison that's going to need a lot of work. It has very rough tooling marks on it. Also, picked up a 1970 made 1851 Navy from Uberti. Seems to function fine, but had some rust on the outside of the barrel. And some accessories! I probably paid too much, but it's been alot of fun!

Thanks guys, got her back together! I decided to leave this one looking like it's 170 years old. I might polish it up later, but for now I like the aged look. The hammer won't stay cocked to the rear, so I'm not sure if that's the sear or maybe part of the trigger is missing? I think I'll order both parts just to be safe, unless you guys have another suggestion?

Can you imagine being a gambler on a Riverboat in the 1850's and someone fires this at you from across the card table? It won't be a good day for you.

My youngest daughter has been helping me a little with it and now that it's complete wants to go shoot it. Life is Good!
