Gallager
« on: September 14, 2021, 04:32:42 PM »
As many of you are aware i dominantly posted on 1858.
Several of you know me from there, and several have been at me like a ton of bricks posting on here instead.
Seeing how 1858 is gone, well here goes fellas!

Like Len and a few other members i live in Sweden over in Jurope which brings that what i deal with are old originals. Basically all of it, and what started out as a hobby has grown to something i could never have imagined.
"The shade tree smith" i guess.. Anyways. Being a rather avid BP shooter some of the guns i write on are mine, some customers.
Anyways!

Gallager.

Yeah. So just recently one of the auction houses down in Italy that i cover had this Gallager carbine up for grabs.

All good n dandy i suppose and what showed up..

Awesome, you get the coolest stuff. I wouldn't call you a shade tree tho. More like a top shelf gunsmith.

So glad to see you here, Jesper! As you know, myself and many others here followed your exploits on the Remington forum, Cast Boolits, and others. I'm 100% with Hawg...you are one of the few top drawer BP smiths I've encountered and your resto stories and excellent photos are most welcome here! You honestly have some of the most interesting and rare pieces I've ever seen, and some I'd never even heard of, so by all means feel free to share them!

I was always a lurker or silent member over on Remington. But when I did log in, the first thing I would look for was if there were any new posts from Racing.

Very happy to see you here Racing! I look forward as always to you fantastic work. You are far from a shade tree smith, You are the consummate professional!

Racing, years ago I had an original Gallagher carbine, bought it and some other old guns from an elderly friend. That gun was in pristine condition, haveng been issued too late in the Civil War to see any use. I sold it to a friend of mine. If I had it back it would be worth many times what I paid for it!

Alrighty then!
Second try!

As some of you are aware i developed well working brass for the Maynard from 50 Beowulf casings. Now.. The Gallager takes a hull that is slightly larger in diameter, and i will thus try to fireform even bigger.
In reality though the right choice would be 56-50 Spencer, 50-70 Government, 50 Alaskan or even... if you really cut into it, 50-90 Sharps.
Issue as of current though is that all of it, in essence, is on back order.
Friend came through letting me have 50pcs of his 50-70 but..
Well.

Sure looks like the forum censors me.

This is try three to get this right, and the forum still "selects" what will be posted.
Before i edited this post what the forum let me post was;

-"Sure looks like the forum...."-
Rest blank.

Try it again Racing. I changed a few settings. We'll see if it helps.
