Griswold & Gunnison
« on: September 23, 2021, 03:16:13 PM »
Shot my Griswold & Gunnison today.
It functioned perfectly and shot very well.
I think I noticed sonething.....I often have trouble with the 36 cal. Balls sticking to the loading lever.
But not today at all.
Only difference is I did not use any wads.
I think without the wads, the ball is seated deeper and therefore less likely to come up with the lever.

I never had balls pull out with my Griswold or navy and I use wads. You can file the sharpness off of the ram and stop it tho.

The ram engraves into the bid'ness end of the ball.

Yes, I have done that. A little dremel work on all of mine.
But even with that sometimes I still have a little trouble.......with the 36 caliber ones.

My opinion is that a .380 is the only way to go.

Of course, use them.  We've all shot our start of those.  I find them loose in the Pietta chambers on a couple of .36's from the late 1990's.  They shave a partial circle in crescent shape and ride forward.  Just too small for those particular guns.  The CNC Piettas seem to like .380 best, too, but handle .375's tolerably well.

Hey, I never go near my pistols with a Dremmal.  But, if I were a DDS I suppose I would ... and could.

Shoot up those .375's and have a ball.

G Dog .....being a doc.....the dremel doesn't scare me......lol.

Thanks ......I will have a ball.
By the way, the balls in the G&G cut a real nice lead ring.

My Pietta .36's all shoot .375 balls. They all shave a nice ring too. So far, I haven't had a single problem.

A couple of Navies here from '96 and '97 don't do .375 well at all.  A 2000 Rem and a 2017 Griswold that I use, shoot them very nicely.  All Pietta.  I stick to .380 and that's it.

Thanks G Dog. So, sounds like I should try the .380's instead of .375 in my 2018 Pietta 1861? I will do that.
