I just bought one recently.   I made a new set of grips for it.  Here's the thread with a pic.   https://coltcountryforum.com/index.php/topic,4616.0.html

Just looked at the thread    wow I think the inlay on those grips was done with a dremel and real shaky hands!!

Count me as a previous owner that now kicks himself everyday for trading it off.  ^j)

I think the inlay was done with a dull pocket knife.

I noticed some have the slightly "plum" colored receiver. Over the years I have picked up a few R&S's when I found them. Two of mine are finished the same. Maybe just a coincidence, but both of those guns have light colored wood grips while the others have darker wood. I stupidly passed on a NIB R&S a couple of years ago for $450. What did someone just say about kicking themselves? :head2wall:

I think that plum color has something to do with the particular type of steel the frame is made from. I believe there are some Remingtons that have the same affliction. And yes, I'm still kicking myself almost 3 years later for letting mine go.

On a luckier note, I live fairly close to Dixon's Muzzleloading Shop, and they usually have a nice stock of new/used guns. On a recent trip, I took a quick glance at the Remington section of the glass display case and one of the guns didn't look right. Turns out it was a lightly used Rogers & Spencer. When I asked to see it, the owner said" gee, I just put that in the case a half hour ago". Maybe the quickest sale he ever made L@.

And maybe the best decision you ever made.

Former Confederate Gen. Joe Wheeler carried an R&S during the Spanish-American War (1898).  He was on Teddy's staff.  Wore a regulation U.S. Army grey uniform.  Tropical attire and a whole lot more.

Great pictures, guys.  Love that 'plummy' frame.

Did he buy his from Bannerman's or was it one of the limited few issues?
