New Army front sight
« on: November 16, 2021, 04:25:58 AM »
Trying to help a friend. He has a pietta New Army. Has a round post front sight. I believe it’s soldered in.
How can I get it out without ruining the blueing?
Can he order a new one?
He can text me pics if needed. I’ve seen it before.
Octagon barrel I believe. Not an open top.

The factory pinched sight is pressed in. Did somebody replace it?

If it broke off flush with the barrel the only way is to drill it out. You can make a new one out of brass rod or you can get a Uberti front sight and cut a dovetail for it.

I think I would cut a dovetail and install a Uberti sight.

Yep. If it broke off flush with the barrel, you'll have to drill it out. And as Hawg suggests, one can be made from brass rod. I have a post around here somewhere that shows step by step how to solder a rod in and trim it to length. I'll dig it up and post it.

I would  dovetail it in elevation  and windage  can both be set fairly  easy that way.

He sent me a pic. It looks like quite a bit sticking out to get a hold of.
