Which do you think serves the 44 cap and ball revolvers better ?Minimum .454 for sure.I have a .457 round ball mould for the Ruger ROA, I don't bother any more with my .454 ball mould that I have for the Uberti 1858.I just cast .457's now and use them in both. They work just fine.

A little bit more resistance when seating them in the Uberti yes, especially noticeable when compared directly with the Ruger side by side at the range. But no big deal though. It could be with the 5.5" Sheriffs model with the shorter loading lever ?Best thing is I would think that .457 in the Uberti is extra insurance against chain fires started at the front ?Not that I have ever experienced one.
BTW, check to make sure your chamber mouths aren't chamfered. If they are, you will never shave a ring.
Gonna be hunting a 36 cal (Pietta) next Am I looking for a 375 or 380?

Back a few years ago chamfering chambers was a "thing". Currently there is much less reference to it. Never tried it because I couldn't come up with a reason. Anyone here a proponent of that?
