I do that occasionally with the left hand, butt forward of course.  My left doesn't get much natural practice so I try to impose some.  It's useful to sometimes draw and shoot with the offhand.  Ya just never know.  Ya know?

I infer that you use and drill according to the Hickok praxis.  That dual grips forward mode of riggage seems useful and appropriate for carrying and using a couple of Navies.  I'd do just like that if packin two 51's was a standard part of the day.

Fly was just a captive passenger in the vehicle.  It was that SUV that did the Christmas parade 'crash'.

Wow....I.....there's a lot to unpack there Capitankirk and G Dog.

Getting back on topic. I used to in my late teens/early twenties. I'm left handed, right master eyed. I shoot everything right handed except pistols. In those, I'm truly ambidextrous. Though I don't play a great deal of cards, I do ride alot and it makes sense (to me) from the back of a horse.

That's me tho I am a little slower left handed. Some things I do better left handed, some things I do better right handed. I can't shoot a rifle left handed to save my life. It's too awkward.

Zulch - I've experienced it both ways.   (7+"

Spent the better part of a summer snapping caps out of my '58 around my mother's horse. Gradually progressed to .22lr and the occasional real powder load out of said '58. Horse seemed to take it well. He'd let me shoot right next to him. However, I was uncomfortable with the idea of sitting atop him and practicing because the majority of the pasture was rocky. Fast forward to that winter and he 'n I are riding down a snow covered trail. The snow's DEEP and I figured "well, no better time than now" and produced my pistol, cocked it and placed a ball into a tree. It took that horse by surprise to say the least. Next thing I remember is sitting in the snow with the horse twenty feet away looking back at me like: "WHAT'RE YOU DOIN' DOWN THERE! COME ON WE GOTTA GO!" Needless to say we had more work to do before He'd let me shoot from atop him.

I was riding a Welch pony bareback one day. I fired an M1 carbine from her back and she bolted. It was either bail or get knocked off by the tree limbs she was headed for at a full gallop. :riding:

I've never been a fan of the "Cavalry" style draw. I don't understand how it's supposed to be helpful. It feels very awkward to me. I'd rather wear the gun on my left side, butt forward and use it cross draw. My left hand is useless for shooting, except to hold the forend of a rifle or shotgun.

"Getting back on topic.".  It's a seamless web here, 79.

Right hand cross draw is how I roll.  That's always worked best for me, especially with 7.5 and 8" barrels. For regular concealed carry I use a Combat Commander on the right, conventionally.

I used to breed American Quarter Horses and took care to 'bomb proof' any that were for trail use.  As to gun choice: Plow Handle Sixties were made for shooting horseback.  No better handgun for that.

I let my mare, Hell-Bitch (not it's registered name), see the pistol and hear it cock before shooting the first time.  No surprises.  After that she's good for the day.
