Mershon & Hollingsworth
« on: February 24, 2022, 02:56:06 PM »
Here's one some of you may not have seen before. A one of a kind prototype 1860 with a self cocking device. Mershon & Hollingsworth made the frame and hammer. The rest of it is an actual 1860 Colt. So yes there was a brass framed Colt....Kinda sorta. It sold at auction for 46,000.00.

Since when do I have 46,000.00? (7+" No it's not mine. All I know is it's a spring wound mechanism.

I've seen that one before Hawg, but that doesn't make it any less interesting. I thought it was kinda crazy looking the first time I saw it. Reminds me of some of the futuristic looking guns that the steampunk crowd comes up with. It's very "Jules Verne".

This pistol is mighty interesting. I can't say it's beautiful but it is a fascinating piece. I take it that the spring is wound up prior to shooting it. Just looking at the photos, I'd guess you press the button on the left side to release the hammer to cock itself. Then probably when you pull the trigger, it allows the hammer to fall without the spring hampering the mainspring action.

Very interesting.
I’d sure like to see a rear view at full cock just to see the rear sight.
