Conversions / I have a question...
« on: April 05, 2022, 05:55:25 AM »
I have (2) percussion Cimarron Uberti 1858 Remmies (.44) with Howell Conversion Cylinders (45LC). I was recently gifted ~12lbs of cast lead bullets with smokeless lube 255g , .452 dia. cast lead bullets in reviewing the Hodgdon Reloading sight for Trailboss, the closest bullet is 250g and the specs are as follows Starting Load: 4.5g, 606ft/lbs, 8,800 PSI and Max. Load: 5.8g, 727ft/lbs, 12,700 PSI.

Anybody see any issues with me using these bullets with Trailboss or any other issues?

Thanks, Retreever

I believe that the Howell folks have a FPS limit for safety for their conversion, and you are under that in my opinion… I would be shooting it… but you should always do your research and read the directions from Howell..

I see no issues as long as you stay under 850fps.

I would think that Hodgden/Trailboss would have data for "Cowboy loads" for that powder. Many loading manuals list lighter cowboy loads for various powders.

Hi Retreever,

I use 4.8gr TrailBoss with hard 250gr Laser Cast bullets for my .45 Colt loads. Those loads are accurate and easy on the gun and shooter.

Richard

I would use another powder and save the trail boss, it is impossible to get now, unless you have a lot of it then I would be willing to buy some from you :cowboypistol: :cowboypistol:

but no to all your questions I even use it in 45 scholfield ( 45 S&W)  I prefer 230 gr in handguns and 250 loaded for the rifles. also you will need to seat those projectiles in deep now I m using flat top projectile, for the 1860 steel receiver in 45 LC and seats better in the conversion cylinders
