Forced House Renovation
« on: July 05, 2022, 08:17:20 PM »
Wasn't planning on it so soon. However, a broken pipe in the attic cause the living room ceiling to cave in. Followed by a whole house re-pipe. Which then required paint, which my wife and I had to do. And then I decided to get diverticulitis in the middle of it, which put me on bed rest/massive antibiotics for ten days. Finally got the kitchen/living room done, though.

Inside, we still need to do three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a sun porch, and a walk-in closet. First, though, we need to do the exterior.

I just finished my kitchen remodel too.
I like those floors,   are they stone or stained concrete?

Good looking renovations! That's quite a bit of work but well worth it.

30+ years ago we had a house on a slab and of course the water lines were in the slab. After a break in the hot water line, insurance wanted to repair the break ( not "replumb"!!)
I told them to forget it, I'll take care of it.
With kitchen/laundry  on one end of the house, bathrooms on the other, I ran supply lines in the attic but I housed both in a common (2 1/2"? Can't remember) so that if a break occurred,  it would run out in the garage  and not anywhere in the attic or main floor level.

Yesterday, We got the new range hood hung. We still have to install the chimney/duct, and reroute the electric.

Today, I roughed in the new breakfast bar that overlooks the kitchen. Now I can take it back apart and do the epoxy finish on the butcher block top.

At first glance at your photo, I thought you had a stereo that generated a lot of heat and needed a hood so it didn't heat up the room. Then I saw the kettle. :happy0008:

Looking good, there. The butcher block breakfast bar will be very cool, too.

I'd call this a preemptive strike, EM. You would have had to do these things eventually anyway. Now you're good for quite some time.
