« on: August 29, 2022, 05:02:57 PM »
How’s it going, I’m new here Captain Kerk sent me fron THR. I’m more of a collector of Black Powder stuff at this moment until the kids get older and I get more personal time. I bought my 1st Cap & Ball last week. A 1858 Uberti, like it alot. I also have a few cowboy guns, 1873 rifle i  .357 and a 1873 pistol in 10mm. One Pedastoli 45/70 Boar Buster. Looking to load BP cartridge!!

You came to the right place, Mark! Kudos to whoever it was that sent you... L@J

We can get you squared away. I load BPCR as do many of the other guys here as well. It's not rocket science (well, maybe really small rockets...) and since you reload smokeless, I can tell you BPCR is a lot easier IMHO. We do have a dedicated forum thread for BPCR reloading. As far as your '58 Uberti NMA, it's hard to beat the simplicity and ruggedness of a '58. Make yourself at home in Colt Country!

I found some old Western Brass with perfect boxes at my LGS $3 each, they had probably 20+. I’m going to load these on a Lee progressive, probably be using Pyrodex until I can get some real BP. the old brass and box will look perfect next to my 1873 rifle.

here the box, here are the bullets

That's one of them thar' FANCY Remmies! Beautiful engraving! You're gonna enjoy shooting that until you get your hands on a Colt and find out what all the talk is about!
A few things about reloading BPCR...first, carry a jar or plastic coffee can with a lid that has water and a drop of dish soap or two in it. When you shuck your fired brass, drop it in the water and give it a swirl. This neutralizes the salts from the black powder residue prior to them attacking the brass. Next, cleaning your brass doesn't work nearly as well with dry tumbling as it does with wet tumbling and stainless pins. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.

And pay no mind to Hawg...he's kinda like our junkyard dog here. Toss him a steak and he'll be your friend forever.

are you taking about the Colt 1860? it’s on my list. Planing to eventually over a few years to get all the early guns. Then I’m going to hang it in my reloading room. Make a nice walnut or tight cedar display shelve.!
