Mike does the Starr
« on: October 20, 2022, 09:25:32 AM »
Hi, Mike put up a new video on the Starr revolver:

IMO a POS compared to other available BP revolvers.

Regards,
Richard

I would agree with your assessment on the DA Starr, Richard. However, the SA is a totally different animal.

In principle Mr Starr's attempts at a "double action" revolver was a great idea. I just don't think he had the technology then to make it actually work. I mean you just wouldn't trust your life to that thing would you ?

I wouldn't want a double action. I don't even like modern double actions. It looks like it would be awkward to cock single action.

You guys telling me I have an ugly duckling?
It's actually a very well balanced and comfortable revolver.

The Starr is no more ugly than other early revolvers like the Tranter, Kerr, and Adams revolvers.    My regret is not buying that revolver when I had the chance.   I'm glad Kirk was smarter than me at the time.   He could possibly quadruple his investment if he wanted to sell it.   This one sold a couple days ago.     https://www.gunbroker.com/item/952887977

Totally agree with Mike on this, the Starr has a European look to it. I regret not buying one when they were available. My brother did and his is fun to shoot.
My biggest concern is that when I pass away, my wife will sell my guns for what I told her I paid for them.

Richard

No sir. Not at all. I haven't been to the range this year and last few times I did go I was putting the Walker and Sharps through their paces.
