New Years Eve Plans?
« on: December 31, 2022, 05:43:12 AM »
Howdy folks, just thought I would start this and see what you fellers are planning for the evening. If so inclined, please share your plans for the evening whether it be sitting in an easy chair with your favorite beverage or just hangin' around.....maybe from a swinging chandelier?? Also, feel free to share your New Years Day plans. Any special traditions? Special foods you enjoy? :big_drink_2:
I will start with my simple plans. The wife and I plan to go to an early dinner (so as to beat the crowds I hope) in the downtown area here then go back home and have some snacks later in the evening and wait for the bell to toll. Personally, I will not miss 2022 and I certainly pray for a better year in 2023 for all. To all the Colt Country Forum members I wish for you all, a Happy and Healthy and Prosperous New Year!!  )l_
May your blessing be many and your troubles few.  :cowboypistol:

An alcoholic friend of mine once told me that New Year's Eve is Amateur Night. That's when people who normally don't drink get drunk and drive around, endangering others. I never saw his logic but still think of it as Amateur Night. At any rate, there are a whole lot of drunks aiming their cars around so we simply stay home, out of their reach.

We'll have red beans and rice tomorrow. My parents always had cracked crab on New Year's Eve so that became our family tradition. They're gone as of many years, now but that still stands in our family.

Here's a recipe that is pretty good. You can soak and cook the beans the long way or use canned ones, like I do.

Red Beans & Rice

Sautee:
   1 C Celery, chopped
   1 C Onion, chopped
   ¼ lb Ham, diced
   ¼ tsp Prudhomme’s Meat Magic
   1 or 2 Bay Leaf

Add:
3 Cans Kidney Beans (don't drain 'em)

Cook ½ hr or until reduced

Serve over Buttered Rice.

Have a great New Year's Eve and I'll see you all next year. :jumping_group:

Awesome recipe Marshal! Sounds mighty tasty. Cracked crab does too. Yep, staying home is the way to go. It’s raining here most of the day and evening as well. All the more reason to be safe at home.

Thanks, Z. Yeah, it's been raining here for a few days and still going strong. Everything is pretty soaked and I expect we'll see slides along highway 129 soon. That'll ball things up some.

Just staying home We'll have the traditional black eyed peas cooked with bits of ham and cornbread. We don't have any cabbage tho so will have to do without.

I have more people wanting to spend tiome with me tonight, than a 51 year old has energy for. Probably going to avoid all 6 of them, and stay home and play with doigs and kids.

I make Green Chilie every year for New Years Day dinner.   We eat burritoes and guacamole all day long.  Oldest son, his wife and four kids will come over and attempt to eat everything in sight.
We always stay home on New Years Eve.
Happy New Year to all.
