CVA Pistol Rebuild

Well, I can't take credit but my son has finished another.
He started out with a CVA Hawken Pistol. If anyone has played with one they are BIG, we dubbed it the club.
He picked up a CVA Mountain Pistol stock, the retrofitted the 10" Hawken barrel to it. The CVA Mountain Pistol's had 9" barrels.
He had all the brass hardware  nickle plated, as well as the Thompson Center Renegade Ramrod Thimble which he used.
He used the Trigger and Guard from a Mountain Pistol. The Hawken Trigger and Guard were a one piece setup.
I did fabricate the barrel rib for him and my brother did the drilling & tapping. I think it turned out pretty nice.
That old Hawken Pistol was a hard to shoot (being so huge), I think this will be much friendlier for him.

Is that barrel 9" or have you/they shortened it some?
Have you got any pics from the actual work on it?
I'm kind of interested in seeing the stages gone through.

No, this is the 10" barrel fit to the Mountain Pistol Stock.
I never took any pictures of his progress, it's been over about 7 years time.
My son has interests in many things, and like his father some projects might sit in one spot for a couple of years.
He has done some very nice Antique Snowmobiles also, but his eyes are still good and he can see what he's doing.
I must admit, he's a much better wood worker than I am. He's got a lot of patients.
The little Squirrel Rifle that he did was a box of parts that I never did start.
I thought it was junk thrown together, but he built a beautiful little rifle out of that box of junk.

Got this rather unusually sized pistol at an antiques' web auction. It was thrown in with the pistol I was after (suppose they couldn't get rid of the duckling on its own). Prolly 1840ish. Barrel length 5"3/4 and riffled  .50. Parts numbered #74, so part of a series. No maker's mark. Stock worm eaten, soft wood maybe pine or fir, grip crack poorly mended, grip very small and trigger guard so tight that I only could work the trigger with the tip of my index finger. A lady's pistol, methinks. Thought it would make a start for a new stock. Found a walnut piece where the fibres were curved. Wanted a grip with the fibres following the contour, for strength. Also wanted a large trigger guard . Mazo Kid acted as my tutor for fitting the barrel to the stock (the lip stick method).
